I hold a B.Tech degree from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, India, and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Chemical Engineering from MIT. At MIT, I developed multiscale models to investigate how electric fields at fluid–nanomaterial interfaces influence interfacial phenomena, such as wetting, salt ion adsorption, and water and ion transport under confinement. By uncovering the molecular mechanisms at play, my research aims to drive innovative solutions for clean water, sustainable energy and advanced separations.

Since September 2025, I have been an Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at the National University of Singapore (NUS), supported by the Presidential Young Professorship (PYP) scheme. At NUS, the Misra Research Group focuses on the computational design of next-generation membranes for applications at the water-energy nexus. To achieve this, we develop and integrate multiscale modeling approaches that span quantum chemical calculations, classical molecular dynamics, continuum theories, and physics-inspired machine learning. These algorithms are applied to elucidate how atomistic level interactions between fluids and nanomaterials influence macroscopic properties, such as the water permeability and ion selectivity. Building on these insights, our research advances the use of nanomaterials in three emerging areas: 1) chemical separations, 2) water purification and seawater desalination, and 3) chemical reactivity under confinement.
